Troubleshooting
Firefox
Reload the browser again. If problem persists with mutiple reloads, clear the
browser cache and offline data as in steps below:
- Find Menu in the Firefox browser.
- Click on Tools and then Clear Recent History.
- In Clear Recent History box, select time range to clear as Everything, then check Cache.
- Click on Clear Private Data Now button.
- Reload the browser.
Internet Explorer (IE) 7 and higher
Refresh the browser again. If problem persists with mutiple refreshes, clear the browser cache and offline data as in steps below:
- Find Menu in the IE browser.
- Click on Tools and then Internet Options.
- In Internet Options box, click on Browsing History - Delete button.
- Under Delete Browsing History, select Temporary Internet files,then chick on Delete button.
- Click on OK in Internet Options box.
- Refresh the browser.
Internet Explorer (IE) 7 and higher
Use following settings to print in Internet Explorer 7 and higher browser:
- Find Menu in the IE browser.
- Click on Tools and then Internet Options.
- In Internet Options box, click on Browsing History - Settings button.
- Under Temporary Internet Files, select Automatically.
- Click on OK in Temporary Internet Files and History Settings box.
- Again, click on OK in Internet Options box.
Tools
The measure distance and area are similiar in their function. Click on the tool of interest. To begin making your custom
shape or line click the Click here to start measuring link. This activates the
tool. Once selected single click on the map. This will place your first point
you drag the line out from that set point. To make a complex line continue to
single click adding additional verticies. When you are complete double click the
mouse completing your line or shape. The tool will process and produce a table
with the results along the left hand side.
Note: The measure tool disables map controls
such as zoom in/out while drawing.

The markup tool is a simple drawing tool that allows the users to markup the map to highlight or make notations.
These markups can be exported to a .pdf and emailed, or can be printed. Select
your markup type. Select your color. Click to begin marking up the map. Hitting the undo text will
erase your last markup. Click the link to complete the drawing. This will disable drawing and allow you to pan and zoom the
map.

Links to Google™ Street View which
provides street level photography. This tool opens a new window. If you are
blocking popups, this window will not open. To access Google Maps™ Street View
you have two options. The first is to enter in your desired address in the find
and go form above the tool. Typing in the address or PIN and hitting Go will
take you to the address of interest. Once the address is identified hit the
Click here for Google Maps™ Street View. Clicking this will open a new browser
window and you will will be automatically taken to the
Street View of your selected location. The second option for selecting an
address is simply clicking on the map. A red indicator will show where you have
selected. Once you have placed this press the the Click here for Google Maps™
Street View.

Microsoft Bing® Maps provides aerial oblique photography
(aerial photo at an angle). This tool opens a new window. If you are blocking
popups, this window will not open. Microsoft Bing® Maps is accessed in a similiar fashion as the Google video
outlines above. Click the tool and select an appropriate parcel or address. You
will see the placement of a red dot on the parcel you have selected. Click on
the link entitled "Click here for Microsoft Bing® Maps Bird's Eye View"a new window will open showing you
the property of interest using Microsoft's Bing® Maps.

Find XY displays coordinate information for anywhere on the map. Click Find XY under Tools. Clicking on the
map will show a green dot. To the left your results will be displayed in a table in decimal degree, degree minute seconds,
and state plane feet.
Elevation chart allows the user to visualize elevation change over a distance supplied by the user.
Begin by clicking on Elevation chart and then Click here to start drawing a
line. Next you will notice a tool tip when hovering over the map titled
Click to start drawing. Once you click your starting point on the map, a
line will show between that point and your cursor. Finish the tool by selecting a
second point. Once this is completed, the chart is produced in a popup.
Request an update provides the user a way to notify the GIS site specialist of changes that
need to be made to the dat by utilizing test and map based solution. Open the tool and select
Click here to request an update. A message box appears. Provide a description
of the requested update, your name and emai which will be used as a way to contact you throughout
the update process. If requesting the update would be better understood by drawing on the map,
select Click here to open map Markup tool. Complete the markup by drawing and
using the shapes, text, or symbols. Select Click here to complete Markup followed
by selecting Click here to submit.
The parcel summary tool can be run using two approaches. The first is to
type in the address in the Find box at the top left and click Go. MapOffice will
zoom to that address. Then click Parcel summary on the left side below
Tasks. The second approach is to simply select Parcel summary under tasks
and click on a parcel. This will perform a summary on the selected on parcel.

Parcel analysis allows the comparison of up to ten (10) selected parcels
and provides the ability to aggregate the data. To use the tool, click on
Parcel analysis in the left menu under Tasks. Next select up to ten (10)
parcels you would like to compare. When completed with the parcel selection,
click Click here to complete selection. A new window will appear with the
selected parcel data in tabular form. You may now aggregate the data or export
to a spreadsheet using the links at the bottom of the table.

The map address list tool requires a specific format to work properly. Please be sure to use a header row, and have your address or intersection contained in the first column. The first column after the address will be displayed in the pop up callout.The address number and address street name are required for addresses to be mapped. This tool also supports the mapping of intersections. You will need to seperate the street names with an "&" sign for mapping intersections. Street directions, street types, and zip codes will improve the ability of the program to map addresses. At this time units are not supported by this tool.
To use the tool, copy a table or list of address from another program into your clipboard. This is typically performed by highlighting the list and clicking
the Edit Menu and Copy or pressing CTRL + C on the keyboard. Then paste the list into the box by clicking in the box and pressing CTRL + V, then click Map Address List.
Tip: If you are pasting from a web page or HTML document, copy the table into a spreadsheet first, then try again by copying it from the spreadsheet.

Create address list generates an address list by selecting parcels and optionally applying a buffer.
There are multiple options for the creation of a list. A table with all addresses within your entered
buffer distance is selected and added to the table. Once it is in the table, there is an option to
export to a spreadsheet.
- Select by address:
Enter an address into the Find box
and click Go. Once the address is selected, you can enter your
desired buffer distance. After the buffer distance is entered select Click
here for address list.
- Select by line:
After choosing Create address list, select click here to start drawing a line.
This enables the tool. Move your cursor to the map and you will see a tool tip. Click once to start
drawing. Every time you click you will create a vertex at which point you can change directions of the line. Double click
to end the drawing session. The selection is based upon whether the drawn line intersects a parcel line.
You can now apply an option buffer. Select Click here to create address list.
- Select by area:
After choosing Create address list, select click here to start drawing an area.
This enables the tool. Move your cursor to the map and you will see a tool tip. Click once to start
drawing. Every time you click you will create a vertex at which point you can change directions of the line. Double
click to end the drawing session. Selection is based upon whether the entire parcel is located within the selection
area. You can now apply an option buffer. Select Click here to create address list.
- Buffering
During any of the above methods, an optional buffer distance can be provided. Buffer provides a selection from the outline of any
selected parcels. The selection is based upon whether the buffer line intersecting a parcel line.
Community statistics generates a chart based on the users selection of available data. Clicking the Community statistics tool provides
a pop-up screen in which the user can select from predefined queries from the drop down menu. Once the chart has been populated with data,
the user can hover over the bars for statistics or click the bar to view the selection in the map.

Create street name list generates a street name list from either a
customized shape or the extent of your community. There are two options for the
creation of this list. The first is by selecting area from the drop down menu.
Once this is completed you can select Click here to start drawing. This will
activate the drawing tool. Using the drawing tool create a customized shape,
single click to create a verticie and double click to complete your shape. All
roads in this custom shape will be populated in the table. The second option is
by selecting entire community from the drop down menu. By selecting this you
will automatically begin running the street name query. All street names in the
community will be selected. This might take several moments. Once the process is
complete you will have a table fully populated with all street names in the
community.
Note: At this time street name list does not account for aliases.

The flood gauge monitoring displays real time National Weather Service Advanced Hydrological
Prediction Service data. To observe the flood information for a particular gage click the task.
This will load the flood gauges. The gauges will be symbolized based on the five catagories
established by the National Weather Service Advanced Hydrological Prediction Service. If no gauges
appear you may be zoomed into the wrong location. It is suggested that you zoom out until you see a
box used to symbolize a gauge station. Clicking on the flood gauge symbol on the map will load
additional information. A chart showing the historical level of the river is displayed as a part of
this dialogue box.
The utility tool displays community utility data. This data includes location
and attributes. Zoom in until you can view the community's building footprints.
Upon clicking the utility look up water utilties are loaded by default. You are
able to view additional layer by using the toggle buttons. Water utilities are
designated as blue, sanitary is green, storm is red, and combined is purple.
The utility lookup also provides the functionality of query the data for specific
attributes. To do this click on feature (i.e. manhole, catch basin) with a system
checked. A bubble will appear on the map identifying the feature you selected.
Within this bubble there is two options to access additional more detailed data.
Click here to display more information will query the entire data
table and provide a table in the left hand tool bar with all the data for that
selected feature. The other option is to select Click here for adjacent facility
and you are able to view the features that are connected to your feature of interest.

The sewer tracing tool allows a user to click on a
point and see all of the sewers that are tributary to that point. To begin
using the tool zoom into the map so that building outlines are visable. Select
the direction in which you wish to trace the flow. Either upstream or
downstream. To activate the tool mouse click on the utility line of interest. An orange box will appear.
You may add one or more points to the map. Once the points have been added, select Click here to trace flow.
The tool will process, this may take several moments depending on the size of the pipe segment. The final results
will show a orange halo around the selected pipe. To the left two tables will be
displayed. The first is a summary table and the second details all the
infrastructure from the affected pipe. To rerun additional analysis you need to
hit [Restart] to the left and then click on the new pipe.

The water main isolation tool is used to locate hydrants and valves that are
affected by a particular water main. There are several ways to activate the
tool. Click on the main to activate the tool. To create a list of estimated address affected
by the isolation of the main you can add an additional customized buffer. A buffer of 0 will only select
lateral mains. A buffer distance of 100 is typically recommended to get the
best sense of addresses given the size of typical right of ways. Once the tool
is run it will return a table of effected valves and hydrants. You can select
the table or the map to target specific structures.

Hydrant flow rates lookup allows the user to verify and visualize hydrants accorging to national standards.
This tool provides water mains and labels their size in addition to color coding hydrants. To use the tool,
click on Hydrant flow rates lookup. If the flow rates are greyed out, please zoom or use the find and go to
navigate to a smaller geographic area.

There are two formats for showing FEMA flood zone information. Begin by clicking on tools then selecting
FEMA flood hazard map. This will open the tool in the left hand toolbar. The default is the Standard legend
which shows the flood zone information as defined by FEMA. The second option is the "Basic legend" which allows
the user to select a more simplified version that reduces the complexity of the descriptions from six to three
catagories. To bring up this layer click the link "Basic legend" that sites to the right of the "Standard legend."
The nearest feature tool is used to locate the nearest selected feature to your location or address.
The features available for selection are within GIS Consortium communities only. To run the tool select
the desired feature from the pull down. Once selected you can choose the number of feature(s) you wish
to have returned (less than 100). The number of features and the distance from the point and address are
populated in the table below. Choosing Restart resets the tool.

Other
The export to graphic tool provides a straight forward way to copy and past your view into a word processing,
presentation or other document. To activate the export to graphic tool you right click on the map image. Click
on the link export to graphic. The tool will begin to run. It is important that you do not move or
close the window as the sofware is rendering the image. It is also important that you are allowing pop-ups as
the graphic will open in a new window. Once the new window opens you are prompted to right click using your mouse
and point to copy. This copies the image to your computer's clipboard. You then open your word processing,
presentation or other document, right click again and point to paste. This will complete the copying
and pasting your image from MapOffice. You can then hit the close button at the upper right of the window
and resume using MapOffice.
Tip: If you wish to resize your image you must resize your browser. The
image is created off the browser image, so to decrease your image size you must
decrease the map view within your browser.
Print view and text view are two alternate ways to view MapOffice data there are dicussed in the view link
above. Print view allows the user to quickly make a cartographic map from their MapOffice view.
To accomplish this click the Print view link in the upper left hand column
above the find tool. Clicking will load a window allowing you the option of
adding additional information to your map product. Loading the print view will
lock the map. To return to the map click the x in the upper right of the print
view menu. The print menu should like this the following:
Legend will include utilities and/or FEMA if the tool is turned on. The legend
is added as a second print page. Clicking title to
yes will allow you to type in a title of your choice.
The field length is limited by the page size you chose. Leaving the field blank or
clicking No will leave the title area blank. The title should show up between
the GISC and MGP logos at the top of the map. With the enhanced
print view in the bottom left you will see scale text along with a scale bar.

Map navigation can be accomplished by using the mouse or the keyboard. While using a
TOOL or performing a TASK, the user cannot use the mouse to control the map. Instead
the user should use the arrows to pan and the + to zoom in or the - to zoom out.
Feedback provides the option for users to directly influence changes in MapOffice
whether it is a tool request or data update. Clicking feedback opens a dialogue
box to add your input. This input is sent to GIS staff to make changes or
improvements. To assure the best results it is recommended that you fill in as
much information as possible. Once completed you click submit.
